St. Joseph’s Parish Job Opening

Chief Accountant

St. Joseph in Kennewick is looking for a Chief Accountant, 30 to 40 hours per week.  The job of Chief Accountant encompasses a variety of accounting responsibilities ranging from routine month-end reporting and answering accounting inquiries to the more complex financial administrative duties associated with large capital fundraising campaigns.  This position performs the accounting and bookkeeping duties for St. Joseph’s entire Parish which includes the Church, School (pre-school through 8th Grade), Children’s Day Care, Dillon Hall, Parish Office, and other miscellaneous Parish groups as directed.  This position is somewhat self-reliant and requires performing a wide-array of tasks with little or no supervision.  This position reports to the Pastor.  No supervisory duties are involved, though this position will be asked to take the lead in financial tasks in general.  Must have minimum of 3 years of Quick Books experience.   Tasks include, but are not limited to:

       ·         Managing and performing the Parish’s financial activities

·         Ensuring the quality and accuracy of the Parish’s accounting and financial records

·         Compiling and processing payroll

·         Manage the Benefits and Retirement elections; process monthly payments to the Diocese

·         Processing request for background checks

·         Processing and printing W-2s, compiling and preparing labor and industry and 941 reports, etc.

·         Posting deposits and processing accounts payable

·         Leading and/or assisting in budget formulations

·         Monthly preparation and reporting on the financial performance of the church, the school and the children’s center including a comprehensive variance analysis

·         Perform month end close out activities including general ledger journal entries

·         Reconciling financial data (e.g., bank statements and credit card statements)

·         Reconciling ACH and Bank Card transactions

·         Attending a multitude of meetings (e.g., Staff, Finance Board, etc.) during the day or evenings dependent on the group

·         Monitoring, reporting, and bookkeeping for Parish special events (e.g., Fundraisers)

·         Generating general and specific financial information that supports decisions regarding allocation of resources

·         Perform Human Resource and Contract functions as required

·         Manage the bulletin advertising process
