What is a Catechumen? What is a Candidate?
A Catechumen is a person who is preparing for Baptism. The term comes the Greek meaning one who is learning.
A Candidate is a person who has already received a Trinitarian Baptism and is now seeking full communion in the Catholic Church. Both Catechumens and Candidates are dismissed to “break open” the readings of the Sunday Lectionary.
Both attend Monday evening sessions to receive a suitable catechesis to acquaint them with dogmas and precepts.
